Sustainability
We meet the ever-changing needs of our clients. Our teams design materials and solutions with a sustainable, scientific, and innovative approach: CO2 emissions reduction, weight minimizing, bio-based and recycled materials use, and product lifecycle extension. Our efforts are essential to support our clients on their journey towards a low-carbon future. In this way, Hutchinson passionately pursues our commitment to building a fairer and more sustainable world for all.

Our ambition

At Hutchinson, we are committed to acting sustainably for future generations and contributing to a more human, environmentally friendly, and low-carbon world, in service of our customers. We value inclusion and diversity within our teams. Our roadmap reflects our ambition to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. By the end of 2025, we aim to offer our customers at least 25% recycled or bio-based materials in all our new products and obtain ISO 50001 (energy management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management) certifications for all Hutchinson sites. By 2030, we also commit to reducing our water consumption by 30% and the volume of waste sent to landfill or incinerated without energy recovery by 60%. We work closely with all our suppliers to reduce our Upstream Scope 3 emissions.

Eco-design & Sustainable solutions

Hutchinson's eco-design strategy focuses on creating sustainable products with reduced environmental impact that deliver the same levels of quality and performance as traditional solutions.
An efficient material use, the incorporation of recycled and biobased ingredients, the search for weight reduction, the optimization of our industrial processes are our main levers to lower CO2 emissions throughout the product lifecycle. We also operate at the system level through multi-material solutions engineering and mechatronics, in order to develop sustainable solutions for our clients.

Reducing our environmental footprint
We reduce our environnemental impact by lowering our energy intensity, by using low carbon energy, by limiting the fresh water withdrawn and by reducing the wastes landfilled and incinerated at all facilities.

Aligned value chain

Hutchinson works with suppliers throughout our value chain to enhance the sustainability of its solutions, to increase the proportion of recycled or bio-based materials, and to adopt low-carbon technologies. Our suppliers are assessed on their contribution to our scope 3 Upstream, according to the following five axes:
- Carbon neutrality
- Use of renewable electricity
- Contribution to a circular economy
- Life cycle analyses
- Governance and ethics
Our target is for our 400 main suppliers to be compliant with these five axes by 2030.
